Discover Sebago State Park near Bridgton

Located 11 miles from your Bridgton Bed and Breakfast is Sebago State Park. Sebago Lake, partially located in Casco and partially located in Naples, is the second deepest and also the largest lake in the State of Maine. It opened in 1938 and is located on the north shore close to the foothills of the White Mountains. The park is 1,400 acres and offers sandy beaches, woodlands, bogs, a river, ponds, and a variety of plants and animals.

Songo River

BBOnline recommends Sebago Lake State Park as it is very well known for its recreational water activities. Avid swimmers, boaters and anglers along with kayakers, canoers and sailors all make this lake their playground, as well as the nearby Songo River. Songo River and Songo Lock connect Sebago and Long lakes. Songo Lock is part of the 28 locks built for the Cumberland and Oxford Canal, and is the last one existing.

Hiking

The woodlands offer shade from the sun and relaxation from the sandy beaches. Hiking trails are found throughout the park. The trailhead signs are located at the main park entrance. There are five main marked trails that range from moderate to difficult. They loop around the wooded areas with one passing by a beaver lodge.

Day Use Area

Located close to your Bridgton Inn, Sebago Lake State Park is a wonderful place to seek peaceful seclusion or lively recreation via the water or woodlands. Given the natural setting and lake facilities, recreational activities are abundant. The day use area is home to a half-mile sandy beach where you can sunbathe, swim or walk along. If the sun is beaming down too hot, the shoreline offers plenty of shade. A boat launch is conveniently located for avid boaters and a playground for the little ones. Picnic tables are provided and if you're needing to walk off your meal, there are many nature trails throughout the designated day use area. There is a seasonal concession area open for those who enjoy the refreshing sweet treats of ice cream and sodas. In addition, to learn more about the area and history of the park there are interpretive programs available in the amphitheater. Take part in a hike guided by a ranger or even participate in one of the many activities provided and led by a ranger. The day use area has much to offer and BBOnline recommends you not miss out on visiting the park.

Sebago Lake State Park has a few rules which it would like guests to abide by. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed. Open fires are allowed, but only in designated areas. No fires on the beaches. No feeding or petting of wildlife. Pets are not allowed in the park whatsoever. If you picnic, carry out what you have carried in. There are dumpsters provided to dispose of trash. The park hours are 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
