Boothbay is a favorite tourist destination, especially in the summers, when visitors flock to the coastal Maine town that has become famous for its laid back lifestyle and wonderful seafood restaurants. It is definitely lobster country in Boothbay, so it stands to reason that many of the restaurants feature lobster done a variety of ways.
The Lobster Dock
49 Atlantic Avenue
Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538
Located right on the harbor with a large porch from which visitors can dine while watching the sailboats pass by, the Lobster Dock is all about lobster. It also offers steamers, oysters, jumbo shrimp and even black Angus beef, for the landlubbers of course. The lobster comes in all sizes from one to four or more pounds, and if you prefer it without the shell, the lobster roll will do the trick. The fishing boats are only a stone's throw from this restaurant, so all the fish is fresh. And don't forget the New England clam chowder. It's how the locals always start a meal. By the way, the beef is cooked perfectly as well. Wine and beer are available to round out any meal. After you feast on the offerings, you may need to return to your picturesque Boothbay inn for a nap.
Boothbay Lobster Wharf
97 Atlantic Avenue
Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538
Also on the harbor, the Boothbay Lobster Wharf offers an array of fine lobsters, steamers, shrimp and anything else that comes from the ocean. As you sit on the porch at this large establishment, you will actually be able to watch the fishermen coming in with their catch. You have your choice of clam or haddock chowdah (as the locals call it) here. There are steamed lobsters, clams, mussels, sandwiches with a wonderful variety of salads, and burgers, fries and everything else Americana, including chicken fingers for the little ones. This restaurant has a full bar and can accommodate large parties with ease. And it isn't everywhere you can order fried clams by the pint, but you can here!
224 Ocean Point Road
East Boothbay, ME 04544
Just a few minutes from Boothbay Harbor, and also on the water, Lobsterman's Wharf is a contender for the best lobster around. It offers lobster not only steamed, but also baked, stuffed and as a casserole without the shell. Other specials include the shrimp pie and double lobster plate with lots of sides. And if you want, you don't even have to come by land; there's free docking for customers as well as free parking. If you come in the afternoon during the season you'll be entertained by the live music that's offered every day. You can choose to sit inside or out. After a hearty meal, you'll be ready for a scenic drive back to your lovely Boothbay bed and breakfast.
