If
you think a park should just be beautiful scenery without the
playgrounds and picnic shelters, this 230-acre park is for you. There
are several miles of trails here for hiking and horseback riding. The
trails, steep in places, call for experienced hikers. The shallow
waters of Middle Creek which meanders through the par, tempt you to
splash through the creek. Make sure both of you are suitably attired in
long pants to avoid insect bites on the lushly wooded trails. It's a
great way to spend the day during your stay at a comfortable Burlington
Bed and Breakfast.

Just
a short scenic drive on Interstate 75 will lead you to this 74-acre
nature preserve in the rich backwoods of Kentucky. From the summit of
the cliffs, you can enjoy wonderful views of the forest on the valley
floor. The hiking at the beginning of the trails is less demanding and
ideal for all skill levels, but you do need moderate to advanced skills
as you near the top of the cliffs. Bird watching is an option with more
than 90 species in the area.
Less than two miles from this
preserve is the geologically unique 106-acre Dinsmore Woods State
Nature Preserve in the northern section of the Bluegrass Region, famed
for its beauty. This is the only place in the state where you can see
the enriching effects of retreating Pleistocene glaciers on the soil.
Hike
a 1.7-mile trail (moderate level) that takes you through unspoiled
maple-oak-ash forests. The preserve is known for its spring wildflower
display. You'll see wood poppies, dwarf larkspur, trout lily and more.
Notice the endangered running buffalo clover adjacent to the forest.
Don't forget to add this romantic hike to your list of Burlington
things to do.
