There are a lot of Jefferson restaurants located along the Ohio River in the Clark County, Indiana; the city of Jeffersonville is also known as just 'Jeff'. This city has played an important historical role not only throughout the American Civil War era but also during the Industrialization era. Even though this city has only a bit over 30,000 inhabitants, there are plenty of Jeffersonville restaurants and bars to choose from. Jeffersonville has much more to offer than just Papa John's Pizza (this city is the birthplace of the Papa John's Pizza chain). When visiting Jeffersonville, BBOnline recommends: Buckhead Mountain Grill (American cuisine, moderate price), Kobe Japanese Steak House (Japanese-style steak house and sushi and seafood bar, moderate price) and Makers Mark Bourbon House and Lounge (located in Louisville, high price bar).
Buckhead Mountain Grill
If you ask any local about the Buckhead Mountain Grill, you will get the same answer over and over: it's all about the big portions. Located between the Ohio State Park and the Van Dyke Park, this restaurant overviews the 2 bridges that connect Jeffersonville with downtown Louisville. Buckhead has 3 more locations in Indiana but nothing beats this view of the Ohio river and the Louisville skyline. This restaurant opens every Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. A local favorite is the Spicy Buffalo-style chicken breast dipped in mild, hot or the extra hot '911' sauce, and served with a side of blue cheese cole slaw.
This is one of those Jeffersonville restaurants that you will most likely visit twice during your stay. The highlights of the Kobe Japanese Steak House are its iron plate grills where the skilled chefs use the 'Teppanyaki' Japanese cooking style to cook fresh ingredients right before your eyes. Teppanyaki chefs are known for its flare and almost acrobatic use of sharp knives and other cooking utensils. A must-eat dish at this restaurant is the Kobe Steak, a chargrilled New York strip steak that can be cooked to your preference. People familiar with the Japanese cuisine will definitely notice the freshness of the rice and seafood, which truly makes a big difference. Also, any of the combination dinners are great choices, especially Kobe's Choice and Kobe's Dinner. After a meal at Kobe Japanese Steak House, you will be ready for a nap back at your Jeffersonville Bed and Breakfast.
Makers Mark Bourbon House and Lounge
Located on 4th Street in Louisville, the Maker's Mark Bourbon House and Lounge is a short drive away from any Jeffesrson Inn or restaurant. This bar has great decor that ranges from custom art-glass by the entrance to the 57-foot-long topped bar. Makers Mark Bourbon House and Lounge does offer meal service, however they are better known for its full bar service. Street parking after 7:00 p.m. can be a bit complicated but there are several options such as on-site valet parking and a nearby parking structure on the corner of 5th Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard. A great night to visit this bar is Friday night when the 'Fire-Up Friday' specials are available ($7 Makers Mark cigars and 2-for-1 appetizers between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m.).
