Tybee Island, about 20 minutes east of Savannah, is a barrier island offering a gorgeous three-mile long sandy beach. Look for the endangered bird species on the island, or watch dolphins jump. Spend the day at North Island Surf and Kayak in Tybee Island for amazing eco-tours and surfing. Three-hour and full day tours are offered, as well as sunrise and sunset excursions. Prices are subject to change, but in June 2011, the cost for three-hour tours is $50 each for adults, and $35 each for children under the age of 10. Six-hour tours are $600 per adult and $85 each for child under 10. A picnic-style lunch in included in the fee. Surf lessons are available. A private lesson is $80, semi-private $60 and group lessons consisting of three to four individuals are $50 each per person. Kayak rentals are also available. A single person kayak rental is $45, two-person rental is $55 and a paddle board rental for the entire day is only $40. Life jackets are included with the fees for the kayak rentals. A seven percent tax is applicable to all prices.

Directions: Take Hwy 80 East, turn left on Campbell Avenue at the first light, then follow the Tybee Lighthouse signs.

This attractive five-acre area is home to the gorgeously renovated Tybee Island Light Station, not far from your cozy Tybee Island Inn. Guests enjoy going up the stairs inside the lighthouse to view each area, making the climb worthwhile. Browse among the support buildings on the site, and visit the Head Keeper's Cottage, which is actually the oldest building resting on Tybee Island.
