Coming down the mountain road in the Chattahoochee National Forest from your Hiawassee Inn, you will be amazed at the view as you descend into the Enchanted Valley. No matter where you look you'll be surrounded by beauty that simply takes your breath away. Mountains surround all sides of the Enchanted Valley, but upon looking at the mountains you will be looking at two different national forests. Perhaps the most beautiful thing that you will lay your eyes upon is going to the first view of Lake Chatuge in the center of all those mountains.

The breathtaking garden that specializes in rhododendrons is located within the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, which is only a short distance from your Hiawassee Bed and Breakfast. The beautiful display of flowers is on a sloping hillside that connects with Lake Chatuge. The flowers that create this amazing view spread out over the hillside so it looks like one colorful blanket of flowers. The garden is made up of more than 3,000 flowers and plants, including a yellow azalea. The Hamilton Rhododendron Gardens have the only yellow azalea flower in the world because it was created by the founder of the gardens, Fred Hamilton. While the garden is open daily, it's best to visit when the flowers are in full bloom during early April to about the end of May.

An entrance fee of $3 dollars is charged during this blooming period. All proceeds help support the gardens.

Guided walking and shuttle tours are available daily from 9am - 3pm. Reservations are required.

There is nothing better than going out on the lake at night to add a little romance to your Hiawassee vacation. The Lake Chatuge Love Boat provides a variety of cruises that you can select from, including family fun cruises. All of the cruises provide you with a breathtaking view of the mountains surrounding Lake Chatuge, but there is something special about being on the lake as the sun is slowly setting over the water. Prices of the cruise vary depending on the style that you select, but remember no food (including gum) or drinks are allowed on the cruise ship.

While you're at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds on your Hiawassee vacation, you want to make sure you make it over to the Pioneer Village. You'll be able to see what mountain life was like back in the early 1800s. The Pioneer Village includes an old-fashioned log home along with authentic furnishings. You can even get a glimpse of an old one-room schoolhouse (hickory switch included), a barn and a smokehouse. During special occasions, Pioneer Village comes back to life to let you experience what it was like in the past through soap making, moon shining and even blacksmithing.
