Open Monday through Friday, from 9am until 5pm, the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County displays art created by local artists. The original Santa Cruz art pieces are selected by a group of peers, as well as council members. Each chosen piece hangs in the council building for three months. The artwork is also featured on the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County's website, alongside the artist's take on the piece and tips regarding how they complete their artwork.

The Museum of Art and History at the McPherson Center features revolving exhibits and activities designed for families. The museum also features various lectures that are open to the public, including some that detail the history of the area that surrounds your Santa Cruz tavern bed and breakfast. Some of the permanent exhibits include a black and white photograph entitled "Baby Beauty Pageant" circa 1925, a Santa Cruz high school yearbook from 1917 and earthenware entitled "Ready or Not" by Robert Kvenild. Contemporary California art, ceramics, various photographs, sculptures and historic artifacts are also on display.

Located at Capitola Espanade in the Village, Sunday Art and Jazz at the Beach features jazz music and Santa Cruz art by local artists. Tha area overlooks both Capitola Beach and the waters of Monterey Bay, providing a breathtaking backdrop for the music and art. In addition to viewing the pieces of art displayed, guests are welcome to purchase the art from the artist. It's a great place to buy a unique work of art that depicts the Santa Cruz area.
 
Free Friday Night Bands on the Beach

Every Friday night, from mid-June until September, the beach boardwalk is home to free live concerts. There are two separate shows, one concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and the other 8:30 p.m. Typically, the band plays covers of popular songs from the 70s and 80s. A trip to Santa Cruz wouldn't be complete without spending the day strolling the boardwalk and enjoying an outdoor concert in the evening.

The UCSC Performing Arts Center frequently has live performances of Shakespeare's plays. From A Lion in Winter to Love's Labor's Lost, there's bound to be a play that most people will enjoy. There are also free events you can attend which discuss the producing and allow guests to view the sketches of costumes, while hearing the creative genius of directing these Shakespeare productions. Plays run in the summer months beginning in mid-July and running through August.
