The Featherbed Railroad Company is a bed and breakfast right on Clear Lake with unique accommodations. Its five acres are speckled with old red cabooses that have been restored and made into luxurious rooms. Each room has a theme, a goose down feather bed and lots of amenities such as a jacuzzi tub. Some of the themes are Casablanca, Tropicaboose and Wine Country. There are nine cabooses to choose from, as well as a boat launch, beach and pier nearby. Tour the grounds and take advantage of the benches, tall shade trees and beautiful views of the lake. A full breakfast with dessert in the historic main station comes with each night's stay. Stop in at the visitor's center and tasting room and enjoy the beautiful grounds, right on Clear Lake. There is an outdoor tent and lawn area where special events and festivals are held. The Festival of Tulips is one of those events held in March of each year. In addition to the thousands of tulips, you will enjoy live music, new wine releases to taste and delectable food. Clear Lake State Park is located just across the lake from Nice. The park is home to many recreational activities and offers visitors a ton of fun. Stop in at the visitor's center for a review of the area's history and maps of the lake area. Take advantage of the lighted and paved boat launch facility with a mooring dock, fish cleaning station and comfort station. You can put your boat in the water and enjoy a day of fishing, water skiing, swimming, canoeing or kayaking. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent at the park's concession stand. The 300-foot swimming beach offers sand, picnic shelters, restrooms and showers. There are several hiking trails in the park which take you through nature areas. Enjoy viewing birds and other wildlife, animal habitats and unique picturesque scenes throughout the park. The visitor's center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. There is no entrance fee, but some fees apply for using the boat ramp.
