Located in Dekalb County in Alabama, Mentone is a small with a population of less than 500 inhabitants but plenty of great Mentone restaurants. However every summer and winter the town's population more than doubles with the arrival of local and out-of-town tourists that take part of summer camps or enjoy some snow skiing. Therefore, it is not a surprise that you are able to find great Mentone restaurants and retail stores that seek to please the hordes of incoming tourists. BBOnline recommends eating at the Wildflower Cafe (casual eating, inexpensive price), shopping for antiques at the White Elephant Antique Galleries, and having lunch at the Log Cabin Restaurant (American cuisine, moderate price).
This cafe is not for people looking for an upscale dining experience but rather for those looking for some Mentone restaurants that provide the best bang for their buck. The place is locally owned and operated, which truly shows through the friendliness of the wait staff. This is a great stop anytime during your stay: be it to grab a quick bite or to take some lunch or dinner back to your Mentone Bed and Breakfast. The Wildflower Cafe opens daily from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for lunch and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Local favorites are the sirloin burger and the BBQ chicken plate. If you're really hungry, try the tomato pie, from which just one slice is good enough for two people! One funny fact is that 'juice opener and glasses' is a locally used term for 'corkscrew and wine glasses'.

The Log Cabin Restaurant is well know as one of those Mentone restaurants that serves one thing and serves it very well: home style sandwiches. There are also salads, soups and sides to complement your sandwich selection. The portions are quite generous and sharing family-style is always a good idea when eating here. Please notice that this restaurant only accepts cash and local checks, not credit or debit cards. Another important thing is that smoking is allowed inside the restaurant so if you're not comfortable with cigarette smoke it is better to eat at the tables available outside or take your order to go and enjoy it at your bed and breakfast.
