For those lucky enough to be in the nation's capital when we celebrate the nation's birthday, there are many exciting activities that will keep you busy throughout the whole day including festival runs, military parades, live entertainment and the fireworks on the National Mall. One of the most energetic places to spend the Fourth of July is in New York City. From visiting the Statue of Liberty to One Trade Center to Grand Central Station and Time Square; New York City puts on the red, white and blue for a series of parades, activities and fireworks presentations to delight all ages! For the adventurous at heart, there is a five day Independence Day cruise on the Queen Mary II. Visitors to Boston should plan to celebrate in Boston Harbor, which hosts one of the largest Independence Day celebrations in the city that is known for the historic Boston Tea Party and kick starting the American Revolution. Boston Harborfest is a weeklong celebration in which many of the events are FREE to the general public. Enjoy cruises, children's activities, parades and of course, the fireworks!

The 4th of July Midnight Parade in Gatlinburg, Tennessee is credited with being the first parade honoring Independence Day, as the parades begin at exactly 12a.m. 100,000 plus visitors journey to Gatlinburg each year to catch a glimpse of the bright and colorful floats, the lights and to listen to live music. After a few hours of rest at your favorite Gatlinburg bed and breakfast, get ready for a full day of activities. At noon on July 4th, the River Raft Regatta offers a fun race from the River Terrace Bridge to the Ripley's Aquarium. After dark, a spectacular fireworks display brings the celebration to a close.
