Fishing
In northcentral Arkansas amidst the natural beauty of the Ozark Mountains, the White River and Bull Shoals Lake join at the Bull Shoals dam forming one of the nation's finest fishing and boating combinations. The White River is renowned as mid-America's premier trout stream, famous for its record rainbow and brown trout. Bull Shoals dam forms Bull Shoals Lake, Arkansas's largest lake with its 45,440 acres of waters along Arkansas's northern border and stretching into southern Missouri.
Internationally famous for its beauty and great fishing, the White River flows through the Ozark Mountains and provides over 90 miles of habitat downstream from Bull Shoals Lake. Trout fishing below Bull Shoals dam is considered some of the best in the country. A rainbow trout estimated at 24.7 pounds was caught and released on North Fork River, a major tributary of the White, in the fall of 2002. Catches of 5-to-7-pound rainbows are common. Annually, 1.6 million fish are stocked in the White River -- about 900,000 of them come from the nearby Norfork Fish Hatchery.
Bull Shoals Lake, with a 1,000-mile shoreline, is a popular destination for anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. The lake's 1,000 miles of rugged shoreline stretch between southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. Largemouth bass and big stripers (in the 50-pound class) are on the fishing menu. Bull Shoals Lake provides all water sports: a free swimming beach, boating, skiing, and fishing.
