El Dorado is located in Union County in south-central Arkansas. There are plenty of inviting B&B establishments in and around El Dorado. The South Arkansas Historical Foundation holds the Mayhaw Festival the first Saturday in May at the historic John-Newton House. The festival celebrates the mayhaw tree and berry and features food made with the mayhaw, other fine foods, a Dutch-oven cook-off. The Fourth of July Celebration is held the week of the 4th and showcases arts and crafts, a 5K run, and food, and spectacular fireworks at dark! The South Arkansas Arts Center has three art galleries with exhibits of work by national and local artists, community theater productions, visual arts classes, a ballet studio, and a photography studio. The Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources has displays on all of of Arkansas's natural resources, but is dedicated to the pioneers of south Arkansas's oil and brine industries.
