Heber Springs is one of The Natural State's most popular locations for recreation and relocation. Whether you are looking for an active or reserved lifestyle, Heber Springs has something for everyone. Heber Springs greatest asset is our natural surroundings and situation on a 40,000 acre crystal clear playground with a climate that is comfortable year round. In Heber Springs you will find friendly and civic minded community members who are extremely outgoing and willing to share their piece of paradise with you. Heber Springs is a progressively growing economic community of businesses and industry as well as a tourist haven.
Greers Ferry Lake is nestled in the foothills of the scenic north central Arkansas Ozark Mountains. From Little Rock, go 15 miles north on US 67-167, then 50 miles north on Arkansas Hwy. 5 to Heber Springs. Greers Ferry Dam, completed in December 1962, spans the Little Red River three miles north of Heber Springs. This clean, clear lake has been stocked with almost every known game fish native to the state by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Hybrid bass, the most recently added species, are now reaching excellent size. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service operates a trout hatchery below the dam and stocks the lake and river with Rainbow and German Brown Trout inhabit the river naturally.
With a wealth of recreational opportunities in the area around Greers Ferry Lake, you'll never run out of fun things to do for the whole family. Numerous campgrounds and hiking trails are available. Sugar Loaf Nature Trail, on an island in the lake, has received many awards for scenic beauty. Greers Ferry Lake offers hiking, camping, boating, and outstanding fishing opportunities.
In addition to outdoor activities, there are many cultural opportunities available to guests and visitors to Heber Springs such as our local Art Gallery Walk each month and the Festivals and Events sponsored by the Heber Springs Chamber of Commerce. Guests to the Heber Springs Area will find many world class lodging and dining providers that will assist in making their time spent in Heber Springs a memorable experience. This is why many families and organizations plan their annual reunions and retreats in Heber Springs each year. Excerpt from http://www.heber-springs.com
