History
Lavender House was built c. 1909, by the dentist, Dr. Sven A. Y. Dahlberg, for his new bride, Miss Claudia Hearin of Jackson, Alabama. The son of immigrant Swedish parents, Dr. Dahlberg was born in Alabama, where he attended private schools and colleges, later attending Atlanta Dental College, where he received his D.D.S.
An early Bay Minette pioneer, Dahlberg moved here in 1905, set up his dental practice and became involved in local affairs. He constructed a two-story professional building that still bears his name downtown. Soon after, he met and married Miss Hearin and built this lovely home for her. The current owners of Lavender House were presented a book by a Dahlberg granddaughter, containing some 400 pages of photos, heritage and history of the Dahlberg family, and proudly share it with their guests.
