Introduction
Southern hospitality and a good night's sleep await you at Lavender House Bed & Breakfast. This early Victorian twelve-room home with its original high bead board ceilings and beautiful stained white pine stairway was lovingly restored over the past five years by the owners and made into a lovely bed and breakfast. The house features large front porches on both levels and a big deck on the back.
In January 2003, owners of the Lavender House were presented an historic marker by the Baldwin County Historic Development Commission for their efforts in restoring the home to its original splendor. Simple though elegant, with restoration almost complete after several years, Lavender House is proving to be a tremendous asset to the city and community.
Lavender House Bed & Breakfast is proud to offer, in addition to the elegant foyer, large parlor and dining room, a spacious sitting room for guests with a sideboard of goodies, games, magazines, coffee makers and small stocked refrigerator. Our four guest bedrooms offer private baths and immediate access to the upstairs veranda. Room amenities include remote cable TV, DVD player, phones with free long distance, computer hookup or wireless internet, and an alarm clock/radio.
After your arrival, be prepared to rest your feet with a cool glass of pure Southern iced tea, a glass of special homegrown Alabama wine, or relax with a cup of freshly brewed coffee and all the trimmings, Southern style. A generous continental breakfast is provided daily in our large dining room.
Special packages available include Small Garden Weddings, Honeymoon Packages, Luncheon Parties, Meeting Luncheons, Small Garden Reunions, Birthday Parties, Special Holiday Packages, and other Specials to Please.
Lavender House is situated on a quiet wooded acre in downtown Bay Minette, Alabama. The grounds are filled with azaleas, camellias, gardenia, and a variety of blooming bulbs including day lilies, spider lilies, buttercups, narcissus, amaryllis and others. Many of these pop up with surprising blooms at different seasons of the year. The spacious back lawn contains a wonderful garden pond that is still in use some 75 years after its construction. It is flanked by a huge Florida palm tree.
Bay Minette, the seat of Baldwin County, is located just ten minutes from the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, the second largest estuary in the US, and Alabama's largest wetlands, covering roughly 300,000 acres. It is also home to the Bartram Canoe Trail, Alabama's official state canoe trail, and encompasses Forever Wild, composed of over 60,000 acres dedicated to public use for hunting, fishing and boating. It is the greatest of Alabama's Ten Natural Wonders!
We are located within an hour's drive to Pensacola Museums and Florida beaches, Gulf Shores and Alabama's sugary white beaches, the famous and dazzling Bellingrath Gardens, the IMAX Theatre, Exploreum and Museums in Mobile, and to one of Alabama's largest retail outlets, Tanger, in Foley. Closer to Bay Minette, we can fill your day with visits to historic sites and structures, beautiful quaint churches, noted state parks, a special artesian well, and Alabama's first farm winery.
