This lovely Queen Anne home was built by Mr. C. M. Shepard in 1897 and designed by well-known architect George Franklin Barber. Its major components are believed to have been delivered from Tennessee in thirteen railroad cars. It features original fireplaces and mantles, stained glass windows, hardwood floors and light fixtures.
Beginning in 1910, this home was used by Mr. Shepards' daughter, Kate, for a private boarding and day school where prominent Mobile citizens sent their children. Many of the schools books and tools are on display in The Shepard Library.
The Kate Shepard House Bed and Breakfast is minutes away from the Mobile Convention Center and the USS Alabama, and about one hour from beautiful Louisiana, Florida and Mississippi Gulf coasts. Bellingrath Gardens, outlet malls and antique shops are also just a short drive away.
