Welcome to Soldotna, Alaska!
Located just 140 miles via scenic, paved highway from Anchorage, Soldotna is the central hub of the Kenai Peninsula. Soldotna borders the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and other nearby state park lands that are rich in wildlife, home to moose, caribou, brown and black bear, wolves, dall sheep, mountain goats, eagles, swans, ducks, geese, birds, fish, and numerous others. Moose often wander right into town, and bald eagles are commonly seen.
The world famous Kenai River is one of Soldotna's big attractions. You can fish from the bank (there are several areas equipped with handicapped access fishwalks) or launch a boat and take to the waterways. Everything you need to make your trip a once-in-a-lifetime experience, from the most basic gear to a full-blown guide service can be found in the local area. King, silver, red and pink salmon, rainbow, steelhead, lake trout, Dolly Varden and several other species of fish are present in abundance in either the Kenai River or other nearby lakes, rivers and tributaries. The Peninsula's ample beaches offer an abundance of razor clams just a short distance from town and excellent halibut fishing is available in Cook Inlet.
A myriad of outdoor pursuits awaits you: hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, berry picking, cross country skiing, raft trips, hunting, photography, flightseeing from a small aircraft over breathtakingly beautiful icefields, taking a float plane trip to a secluded lakeside area, driving a few miles to watch the white Beluga whales in Cook Inlet or to witness the brief stopover of thousands of snow geese on their northern migration in April, are ventures for every taste and physical ability.
For the less adventurous there is an abundance of relaxing activities in Soldotna: golf, movie at the cinema, bowling, roller-skating, tennis, racquetball, swimming, and ice-skating are just a few of the many activities available.
