Alaska is the largest state in the United States with one of the only two US states not bordered by another state. Its land area is approximately 570,380 square miles. The U.S. Senate approved the purchase of Alaska in 1867. It cost two cents per acre, for a total of $7.2 million dollars. This is an outdoor lover’s paradise! There are plenty of areas for hunting and cross country skiing, not to mention plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, fish or be at awe standing next to massive glaciers. Alaska is one of the unique places to catch a dog-sled ride or gaze at the wondrous aurora borealis. After a day of Alaska sightseeing, retreat to a Fairbanks inn or Anchorage bed and breakfast with mountain views.
