Harry's Room
A beautiful queen size fumed oak Stickley spindle bed with corbels dominates this beautiful second floor room. Original maple floors are protected by a wool Karastan rug with a deep blue early William Morris design. The wallpapers are also of the Morris Company, in the Acorn pattern first printed and designed by J.H. Dearle in 1879. The reddish hue of the paper is almost identical to the imported French glass shades on the room's period light fixtures.
A bedside antique slag glass lamp rests upon a Stickley Brother lamp table, while a L & J.G. Stickley rocker provides ample comfort for morning sunrises over Mt. Roberts and the downtown area. A blue streaked shale patterned bathroom floor compliments the wainscoting surrounding the pedestal sink and claw foot tub, the original antique wall hung commode is original to the house. $159.00
John's Room
A romantic hideaway furnished with early Craftsman style fumed white oak furniture that has been quarter sawn to bring out the intricate and beautiful grain patterns of the wood. The massive four poster king size bed with its arched stretchers and pyramid topped posts resembles the early work of Gustav Stickley and Harvey Ellis. A Louis de Poortere Mossoul patterned wool rug accents the Brazilian cherry wood border that surrounds the original maple floor. William Morris design wallpapers in a marigold pattern with an iridescent gold acanthus leaf border compliment all of the room's oak furnishings as well as the green enamel open door gas stove. This large second floor corner room has the advantage of windows that look out over the adjacent garden park and the downtown area and harbor. The large tile floored bath with its wainscoted walls, console legged sink and double end claw foot soaking tub and shower, tastefully combine contemporary luxury with turn of the century elegance. $189.00
Lila's Room
Romance, gold rush dreams and early 20th century charm, along with elegant furnishings provide an unforgettable experience in the original master bedroom. Redone with imported English wallpapers originally designed by May Morris and first printed in 1883, are in recognition of the Olds family heritage. The honeysuckle motif compliments the view out the spectacular bay window of the adjoining park and backdrop of Douglas Island and Gastineau Channel. Located on the second floor, this large bedroom encompasses the entire front half of the inn.
A Stickley king size panel bed fitted with quality linens and a queen size prairie settle sofa bed, make this room ideal for those needing extra accommodations or a private space all to themselves. A free standing enamel gas stove and a rare imported Persian Tabriz family rug over the original fir floors accent the room's large private sitting area. Gilt framed limited edition artwork by Alaskan artists adorn the walls in the master bedroom as well as all the rooms throughout the Inn. The tiled bath with its hand set old fashioned hex floor tile, highlight the pedestal sink and double whirlpool tub and shower for two. Elegance with contemporary comfort and luxury casts a spell of yesterday that become tomorrow's memories. $219.00
The Governor's Suite
Enchantment, romance, and turn of the century elegance provide an
unforgettable experience where period furnishings subtly blend with 21st
century amenities in the “room at the top”. The entire top floor of the
inn has been transformed into a single luxurious and very private suite
that is the perfect setting for your very special occasion or vacation
retreat. A private sitting area with a non wood-burning fireplace has a
Stickley Morris rocker and a Courtland settle for lounging or reading a
good book on a wintry day. The handcrafted king size oak slat bed reflects
the old world craftsmanship of the last century. A large inviting double
whirlpool tub compliments the suite and will further enhance lasting
memories of your stay. Three gables face opposite sides of the house,
which provide outstanding views of Mount Juneau and its waterfalls, peeks
at the local harbor ship traffic, and spectacular scenes of the historic
hillside neighborhood. The suites bath has rustic earth tone floor tiles
and period wainscoted walls. The old style white bath fixtures with
matching bidet highlight the bathrooms décor. A heated towel bar assures
your comfort after stepping from the shower. Lonely Planet’s 2004 Alaska
Guide said, ” The attic suite is a priceless garret where the Great
American Novel could easily be written.” Come see for yourself!
